The Mossy Burrow Gang
Oskar and Mei have known eachother since childhood. The woods near where they grew up was a world of magic and imagination for them, and they spent many sunny, glorious days drawing maps of the woods, chasing down fairies, hunting for treasure, and making potions out of the local plants. Their activities were centered around their top secret clubhouse, The Mossy Burrow; a moss-padded burrow underneath the tree roots. The young friends became inseparable soulmates in that burrow, and although they have now journeyed beyond their forested home to seek new adventures, they still share that deep connection. Being Psychic-types, Oskar and Mei are able to communicate telepathically—a necessity considering Mei's underdeveloped mouth only allows her to speak in pops and bubbles. When speaking to others, Oskar does the talking and translates for Mei if necessary. This is slightly ironic because Mei is the least shy of the pair—she's slightly braver and more outgoing, and certainly more openly cheerful. Oskar is meek and humble, but still filled with a sense of innocent wonder at the world. He takes a jog every morning as the sun rises, and finds great joy in being alone in nature. He has an affinity with the weather, which is reflected in his moveset.
The two are in general very quiet and gentle Pokémon, easily overwhelmed by danger, and very kindhearted, so they felt that joining the merchant guild would be an appropriate career choice—or at least more appropriate than the rescuers or rogues guilds.
The pair met Sophie while on a mission with Shroomsworth to deliver Grass Pokémon eggs to Sapling Village. The eggs they delivered hatched, and one of them wasn't Grass-type! It was Sophie. After checking in with Missy, it was decided that Sophie would join The Mossy Burrow Gang. Sophie is the child of a Surskit and a Gorebyss. She has never met these parents, but she is very independent, and so she doesn't think of Mei or Oskar has her parents either. She sees herself as an orphaned runaway on an epic adventure. She matured quickly and can function fine on her own, but she has a childish streak that manifests itself in an adventurous, often mischievous attitude. She is very curious, and this often gets her into trouble, as she feels entitled to explore and may fail to realize that she is entering private property/mixing up people's belongings/eating other people's cookies, etc. She has a lot of energy for these hi-jinx, and she's good at getting away with them because she is perfectly silent—she has no mouth and never speaks a word, meaning that while Oskar is busy translating for Mei, Mei is busy reading Sophie's mind and translating for Oskar... who then has to relay Sophie's message to anyone else that may need to hear. Sophie lives in the pond behind Oskar and Mei's cottage near Tao village.

I felt like my previous Merchant app for , "Team Wild Blue", was too ambitious... I was planning to do digital comics, with a lot of writing involved. I decided I wanted to be messier and sillier than the team was going to allow me—they seemed very deep and solemn.
So I designed "TEAM THUNDERCATS", which was a completely goofy team comprised of a Seel and a Porygon, who were uber-nerds and metal fans, and would have tons of fun as a Rescuers team. I really liked that idea, it cracked me up, and I wrote a lot of good jokes for their comics. But when it came down to it, Porygon and Seel weren't fun to draw, even if I was doing it in an extremely messy style.
Then today I was sitting around drawing more Reuniclus... I've been drawing a ton of them at work... and just having a blast. So simple and curved yet expressive! Reuniclus have got to be my favourite Pokémon to draw. And I was drawing super-cute Hypno, too, to try and convince that Hypno isn't as creepy as she thinks. And as I drew Hypno after Hypno and Reuniclus after Reuniclus, I realized that this is what I should be doing for PMD—drawing whatever's the most fun. So I devolved my drawings and the Mossy Burrow Gang was born. I felt a slight twinge of hipster regret because I felt like they were more mainstream—is there another Drowzee/Solosis team already?—and I had really liked the bizarreness of the Seel/Porygon pair. But these guys are insanely fun to draw, so so be it.
